Estero will have an incorporation referendum Nov 4 2014

The Lee County Legislative Delegation today approved Rep. Ray Rodrigues’ local bill for an Estero incorporation referendum on the November 4, 2014, ballot.

We presented the Delegation with petitions signed by 10,238 Estero residents indicating their wish to have an incorporation referendum on the ballot next year.

We wish to thank all of you who helped make this successful outcome possible. You are to be congratulated for one of the largest community outreaches the Delegation has ever experienced.

  1. Exactly what kind of procedure allows any group, like the PLCA Board, to vote for indivudal residents on any issue that affects the residents? Such action seems immoral, and illegal or a conspiracy that should be punished.

    • The PLCA Board continues to act with impunity. Why? Because they can. The only way to stop them is via court action … and so they keep pushing the rope. One can only hope that new legislation for homeowner’s associations will encourage higher standards of integrity and transparency.

      • Further legislation will not stop a board that is already violating the Home Owners Association statute that requires all boards to disclose financial records that includes contracts that include the compensation paid to the PLCA manager Marie Martel. Their attitude is, so what are you going to do sue us!

  2. It is confusing because the City of Bonita Springs in conjunction with the PLCA Board of Directors arguably initiated (usurped) the vote for Estero’s incorporation.

As a result, in February of 2014 only those registered voters in the Estero portion of Pelican Landing and Tides at Pelican Landing will vote on whether or not they want to become part of the City of Bonita Springs. The majority vote will decide yes or no to joining Bonita. If the majority vote yes to the City of Bonita Springs, the deal is done – they become part of the City of Bonita and will they will not have the opportunity to vote to become part of the Village of Estero.

If the majority vote “no” to joining the City of Bonita Springs, those voters will then have the opportunity to vote in the Estero referendum to incorporate to become the Village of Estero.

  3. I AM CONFUSED. HOW DOES THIS WORK WITH THE VOTE TO BECOME PART OF BONITA SPRINGS. DOES IT JUST MOVE UP THE VOTE ON INCORPORATION? WHAT ARE THE PRO’S AND CON’S.
